As they drew nearer the gate, Kalista did not slow her pace but strode forward as if nothing barred their way, she noted his slight hesitation, her attention having at the moment been in almost a whole, on his presence but he saw it, as she knew he would, she smiled slightly at this and continued forward, inclining her head to him as he simply waved the gate open, this, once again, striking her off guard but, of course, she would not have shown an inkling of her surprise.
“Thank you Lukas.” She stated simply as she moved forward to the streets beyond.
The Gate closed quietly behind them after Lukas had walked through. The spot they entered seemed to be the side of a great tall building mostly unoccupied except for one single woman carrying an armload of bedding and such in a basket that rested on her hip. The woman was dressed in a manner of a maid, her knee length light blue dress made of light cotton, complete with a white apron that was tied about her waist and a bit disheveled from the load she carried.
“Good afternoon Shella, might I be of some assistance with that?” Kalista asked the older woman as if they had been friends for a long time.
The older woman smiled warmly at her queen and then looked to the strange Knight standing next to her and raised a brow but made no comment. “No Milady, I am fine with it, nothing these old hands can’t handle.” She replied as she slowed and then stopped.
“Very well.” Kalista said, returning the maid’s warm smile. “How is Sarah doing? Any signs she might regain herself?” Kalista then asked, her tone quiet this time, with a near hint of hope in it.
“No, I fear not, it seems she still screams whenever anyone even so much as tries to touch her…” The woman returned, the warm smile retreating from her lips.
“I am sorry to hear this news... so sorry Shella.” Kalista returned, her smile as well fading. “Trust me when I say that we will find and see to it that the Necromancer responsible will face justice…” The queen continued.
“Yes, I have no worries about that, as I know the General will see to it he is caught, if not by your own hand Milady.” Shella returned and then began to move forward again. “I had best get these back to the other girls so they can finish their rooms. Thank you so much for inquiring about my daughter, it is helpful to know she is in your thoughts, good day.” Shella finished and moved on through a side door and disappeared from sight.
Kalista turned to Lucas and smiled. “I do apologize, for the interruption, but I simply had to know.” Kalista told him and then began to move forward again. “Well, shall we.” She then stated, taking a deep breath as if to clear the strains of the former conversation.
