The food sounded good and he continued to smile at Sarah.
He wasn't smiling as she told her story, but shrugged at the end of it. “A little like you I suppose.” He answered thoughtfully. “I've never known anything but the alleys myself. Never knew my mother, never had a father in the first place. Apparently, a young homeless girl, twelve or thirteen, got raped and died birthing me because of it. Some kids in the alley took care of me I guess, but I don't really know what happened to them. Anyways, I've just always been in the streets and never had a real family, just other rats that come and go – But I've always been there.” He thought a little more, and shrugged again. His story had more detail than hers he supposed, but it was what it was.
“Started getting pushed around before I could walk too well, so running got important real fast and fighting was only natural. When you're dirty and smelly like me, I guess no one wants to hire ya, so getting out of the streets is tough too. So Like you I guess, I do what I do because I always have.”

She nodded when he finished. “Well whatever the reasons for the things we do I suppose we just do them because that's who we are.” She stated and then sighed. “I can't speak for the rest of those who do what I do but I honestly don't think I'll ever do anything else. The money is great and like I said, I like doing it.” She laughed. “I guess that's why I'm so damned good at it.” She flipped her head to the side and tossed her hair out of her face and grinned at him.
“So why the sudden armour thing?' She then asked.

He couldn't disagree with Sarah's conclusion.
“So, this guy came looking for me in the alley today.” He answered, kind of curiously. “I guess he's a mercenary, and looking for a team or something. Well anyways, apparently someone recommended me, though I'm not sure I'm qualified. He says the jobs will be just, and I can opt out if I disagree. He gave me twenty gold coins to think about it, so I figured the least I could do is check it out.”

“A merc huh?” she raised a brow. “Don't see many of them come through Meerin.” she thought on it for a moment and then shrugged. “Who knows could be a good thing for you/” She told him and smiled. “At least he actually has money... that's always a good start.” She grinned wider. “You don't know who recommended you?” She then asked tilting her head to the side and wondering. “Because the who might be the answer as to the question of his being an honest man or not.” She then added.
About that time their food came and she smiled hungrily at the plate as it was put before her. The waitress also placed their drinks on the table and then left again.
Sarah immediately snatched up a piece of bacon and began to munch on it. She rolled her eyes and sighed contentedly. “This stuff has got to be the best thing to ever happen to mankind.” She stated as she finished that piece off.

He was about to answer when the waitress came back with food. It smelled amazing. Street watched Sarah enthusiastically start into her plate, and decided to pick up a strip of bacon too. “I think I'll try some of that then.” He chuckled and took a bite, quickly understanding her statement and nodding his agreement through closed eyes.
“Iridian.” He answered finally, after his strip was also finished. “She's cool, but she talks to everyone, so I don't know how much that means. That said, it's what I like best about her – it's why I even know her.”
Street took a look and then a sip of his orange juice, then tried some of everything on the plate.

She was just finishing up a few bites of her eggs when he finished telling her the name of the person that had recommended him. She smiled as he explain how she talked to everyone and then chuckled slightly.
“Ya she is quite a friendly woman though don't take her being nice to people as a weakness.” She told him. “Iridian has been around for a very long time and she is smarter than she appears. If she told this guy about you there was a reason for it. There is something about him that she trusts.” She told Street in all honesty. “I would trust in the fact that she found him as such and give him an honest chance.” She fished and took up her Oj and drank some down before putting her fork to a piece of sausage.

“That's essentially why I talked to him in the first place.” Street returned between mouthfuls. “I can't say I trust him, but I'll see where he takes me.”
He ate pretty quickly and had soon finished everything on his plate and the glass of juice.
“That was outstanding.” He declared happily. “You don't even know.” Every Item on the plate was better than anything he'd had before. The bread and cheese from the inn was great, but he could see then why that was a snack.

Sarah smiled as she looked down at his empty plate and glass. “I know right?” The food here is very yummy.” She stated as she popped the last bit of sausage into her mouth.
Sarah finished up her orange juice and then settled the glass on the table and looked over at Street. “You can get used to this rather quickly you know.” She told him and then leaned back in her seat; her eyes still on Street and she regarded him for a few moments. “But you shouldn't allow yourself to get used to it. These kind of places tend to make a person to comfortable. People start making money and next thing you know they've lost their edge because now they have nothing to fight for....” She smiled as she looked up at the waitress who came and collected their plates and left a bill on the table.
“I'll take that.” She stated as she snatched the bill up and looked at it then folded it and held it in her hand.
“...because they have everything they want. Soon they start spending too much time in diners getting fat from all the greasy food and their minds get sloppy because all they do anymore is listen to gossip and read trashy novels.” She laughed and the stood. “But it sure is nice to have these places around when you want something really yummy to eat.” She winked at him as she strode over to the counter and paid for their lunch.
“You ready to go get them gloves so we can get to drinking?” She then turned and asked.

'Yeah.' Street stood and walked after her.
''It's my understanding of the world though, that there will always be poor people like me, starving and cold in the streets because others will always have more than they need. I figure hard times aren't a phase this city is going through, so no matter if I do well and make money enough to eat and drink as much as I want in a warm room at the inn, some others won't. So I'll always have something to fight for. Victory for me is unachievable, so I figure I'll live and die fighting''

As they walked out of the diner Sarah listened to what Street had to say and supposed he was probably correct. They only thing that kept her from falling into the trap of success was the fact that she simply wasn't done doing what she did yet. She supposed she would never be not until the day when a hit turned bad and she turned up dead.
They made their way back through town and made it to the blacksmiths shop before she said anything else. It didn't take them long but she was thinking the entire time on a few matters. “Well here we are.” She turned to Street and smiled. “Now pay the man so we can get outta here and he can close up.” She continued to grin.
She was actually beginning to get excited about a night of drinking and fun for a change. This was probably the first time in years she'd not been in a tavern because of someone else and she now planned on making sure that no matter who tried to step in the way, if there would be anyone, she'd not allow them to. She was also pretty happy to have found someone to hang with who wouldn't be looking over his shoulder every two seconds.

As instructed, Street opened up his coin sac and produced the payment for the work on his leather gauntlets. He traded thanks with the smith and slipped the gauntlets on to his hands. ''Help me out?'' he smiled over at Sarah as he held his forearms out to her again. The manner of tying his laces with one hand still eluded him, but he'd far rather wear the things than carry them, not to mention he felt pretty proud to have them, so of course he'd want to be seen in them.
''It's still pretty early.'' He noted with a devious smile. ''We'll be drunk and silly in good time.'' He'd had a good lot of drinks a few nights back with Kaye, and he planned to have a good lot again with Sarah. All in all, he was having a really good run.

Sarah smiled at him as he held his arms out to her for aid. She once more deftly tied his laces up in quick decisive movements and then smiled.
“All done.” She stated and then flashed him a near devilish grin. “Oh... I plan on on getting smashed.” She laughed. “I can't remember the last time I did and so I think I may be long overdue.” She continued as she started to turn away form the smith and towards the nearest tavern. Before she turned all the way though she paused and inclined her head to the smith as in farewell and then looked at Street.
“Where we off to then?” She asked.

“Thanks.” He smiled and clenched his fists a couple times to try out the fit – it was perfect again, of course. “The Phantom is always fun, and it’s pretty close to here. Maybe I’ll try something better than the mead this time around.”
Street stepped up and swiftly took the lead. “Can’t remember?” He turned around as they walked, and he gave her a devilish grin. “Well let’s go have a drunken adventure you’d be sorry to forget!”
