The night was unlike any other. The air was full of static and the clouds overhead quickly began to turn darker and darker as the minutes rolled by. Thunder rolled in the distance but came closer with the darkening clouds and a strong wind began to blow through Meerin.
It was this wind that marked the night unlike any other ever before known to this side of the world. It brought with it a strong smell of fire lilies and it was hot. No, it wasn't warm or even pleasantly hot like a hot bath; it seemed that if one stood out in it for too long one would burn to a crisp just like a slab of pork left in the fire for to long. It sucked the moisture out of the air and made it feel as though each breath one took was coming from inside a furnace.
People hurried and closed all there market stalls as quickly as they could and made way to shelter in any establishment they could get to around the city square. Steam drifted up off the backs of cloaks and metal buckles touching the skin left red marks on the skin of many people but for the most part everyone got to safety before the storm crashed into the city at full force.
Sheets of wind driven rain poured down over the land causing a great uprising of steam that blanketed the city in a total whiteout. Shutters left open were ripped from their resting places and great flashes of blue light lit up the night as it cut through the steaming city. Buildings shook and it seemed that the sturdy walls of the Tavern themselves were going to be ripped up from the ground.
Out in the middle of the town square a woman appeared. No one could have seen her through the storm and not a soul would have heard her laughter as it was carried away by the hot winds.
The storm about the city continued though it didn't bother the woman in the least bit as her bare feet carried her toward the tavern where most of the citizens of the city had taken refuge.
She wore a long black gown that; despite the wind and rain, remained totally dry. Her long black locks swayed with her steps and her bright green orbs that glowed with iridescent light began to dim and change the closer she came to the tavern door. They dimmed and became a simply beautiful shade of jade when she walked through the heavy oaken door.
No one seemed to notice her entrance as she stepped into the light of the living. She immediately melted into the background and it wasn't until she moved to the bar and ordered a drink that anyone even knew she was present.
She was beautiful to behold, a Goddess through and through. She diminished her appeal by trying to look like a peasant though she would need a lot more acting lessons to pull it off in total. She plucked up her drink and turned away from the bar and began to walk towards the table directly in teh middle of everything.
“Hey...” The barkeep spoke up. “You forgot to pay.”
The woman turned and looked at him, tilting her head slightly to the side. “Are you certain about that?” she asked; her voice was soothing.
The man looked down at the counter once more and then laughed lightly. “Man this storm must really have gotten to me, I'm sorry miss, thank you.” He stated as he wiped the coin from the bar.
The storm continued outside and the busy tavern continued to do as taverns do; it partied. Men and women alike seemed to let it all go. There wasn't anyone in the bar that could contain themselves. It was as if they were all puppets partying at the will of some God, or goddess.
The woman took her chosen seat and delicately sat her drink on the table in front of her and smiled as she watched and listened to the sound of perfectly controlled chaos ensuing all around her.
