The coffee house was always a great place to sit and sip on a good hot beverage, or cold if that was your thing. This night her choice was a good cup of dark tea, steaming, with just a shot of lemon and a dash of sugar to sweeten it. She sat with her back to the wall on the far side of the door that opened a lot less often that that of a tavern. She could see the entirety of the little coffee house from her position and that suited the likes of her just fine.
There were a few other patrons inside at this time. To her right was a couple, the male was obviously older than the female and showed signs of being her father rather than her date; judging by their conversation and the mannerisms of the daughter. To her immediate left was a couple, a true couple, married and quite enjoying one anothers company which lead to assume they might be newly weds. None of those two tables were what interested her so much as the one sitting up front. He didn't look so good.
Sarah sipped her tea quietly, watching the other tables in turn, but in all honestly, her eyes lingered on the one man up front and it didn't take long before he finally slumped over the table and appeared to be sleeping. Of course, he wasn't. No, he would be quite dead when the waitress moved to see what had happened to her customer.
As expected the moment the waitress touched the dead man a scream issued from her lips and she backed away. “He's.. He's dead.” She stated in a trembling voice.
Another man hurried over, the other patrons in the coffee house stopped their flirting or otherwise scolding and stared. Sarah sat and sipped her tea, satisfied that her money would arrive soon enough at home.
There was a whole investigation that would go on from here, she'd be asked a few question concerning the patron in the bar. So she would just sit here and sip her tea and perhaps order a cake or biscuit while she waited. Oh sure she would make a show of being at least a little shaken up but one had to be honest with ones-self that truly, these things happened in large cities like this one.
It took all of about an hour to be rid of the body and have the investigation come to an end. Sarah endured their questions as did the other patrons and employees. Once the soldiers had left she ordered another tea and just one more biscuit and settled back in her seat to enjoy the early evening.

The cobbled streets of Meerin were busy on this day, like any day; Children rushing to get to school, adults rushing to get to work, shopkeepers setting up shop, delivery men delivering their goods.
Though Samantha was normally one of those people heading off to work and trying to not be late, it was not the case today.
Sporting a red blouse and long black pants that came down loosely over her boots, giving ample room to be able to pull up a pant leg fast in the event of needing one of her blades, she walked the busy streets calmly, avoiding impact with everyone while Silver walked next to her. Not needing to be anywhere fast and not needing to work, she felt no need to submit Silver to wearing a harness and saddle but she could not leave her best friend at home either.
Without all the armor on she felt more free and relaxed. She loved her job but having a day off now and then felt really good. Nothing like being able to take the time to enjoy life in every aspect.
Coming up to the coffee house, Sam nodded to Silver and concluded, "We'll continue our conversation when I come back out. And don't worry, I won't forget to get you a treat." She smiled at him as he nickered in response.
After entering the cafe, she looked around and took note of someone she'd not seen there before. She could not come here every day though she would have liked to but she thought she knew all the regulars. Nodding to the waitress as though saying 'I'll have the usual.', she looked to the lone stranger at a table for two and headed towards her, "Hi there. I've not seen you around here before, new to the cafe or the city? Eating alone? Mind if I join you? I'm Samantha by the way." She said all following each other with a smile on her face.
Talking with others at balls and during work was so much different than in town and she sometimes managed to ramble on, but at least all her thoughts came out and in the end things normally turned out okay.
Things in the coffee house seemed more tense than normal but she'd get around to inquiring about that later. She had no idea about the earlier occurrence but would probably find out soon enough with how tense the waiters, cook and some of the patrons were.

Sarah's dark eyes turned upwards to look at the other woman as she blurted out so awkwardly all those questions at once. Had Sarah been someone else she'd have probably packed it up right then and there thinking this woman to be out of her frikin' mind. As it was though, she was not someone else.
“Hi..neither..obviously...not at all...Nice to meet you Samantha.” She answered her questions in the order they were given and she pressed her right foot against the seat of the chair opposite herself and pushed it out for her new guest.
Sarah did not give her name and she wouldn't. She was a strong believer in the fact that a name was not something someone through around aimlessly for anyone to catch. There was perhaps 5 people in total in this entire city who new her name and not a single one of them new her last. Of those 5 people, 1 was an assassin, well the elder assassin to be exact.

When the stranger at the table replied and pushed the chair out, Sam realized that she'd gone and done it again and started to laugh a bit as she shook her head. While taking a seat she said in turn, "I'm sorry about how that came out. I'm not used to meeting strangers anymore and introductions don't come easy to me."
The waitress whom Sam had nodded to not all too long before was already on her way to the table with her order, "And it was just as awkward all those years ago when you first came in here my dear." Said the waitress to Sam as she put a slice of strawberry rhubarb pie with vanilla icecream and a coffee down on the table in front of her.
"Thank you Margaret." Sam smiled to her. "What happened this morning to put everyone so tense in here?"
"John died at his seat a little over an hour ago. The coroner and the soldiers came by, took him away and asked questions." Margaret sighed. "We hear about people dying randomly throughout the city but we never imagine that we'll be the ones to see it happen."
"I'm so sorry that you had to go through seeing that." Sam did not have to ask which soldiers came as she knew which ones were patrolling which areas and she'd look into that a later. "I did not know that John was sick, I'll be sure to go by and see his family later."
"He did not look ill at all when he came in though. He was fine one moment and then a bit later looked as though he got run over by a wagon. I thought it would pass but now he's gone. It seemed odd to me." Margaret stated while looking back and forth between the two.
"You're right about that appearing odd. I'm sure the soldiers are doing what they can though." Sam nodded to her reassuringly. "Thank you for the update and I hope you'll be able to get the thoughts out of your head soon."
With that the waitress said thanks and walked away to go back to work. Sam turned her attention back to her table companion, "Sorry about that interruption, I was just concerned about them with how stressed they looked and wanted to inquire."

Sarah finished chewing and swallowed a bite of her biscuit just when they'd fished talking. It hadn't mattered to her as to rather this Samantha had been talking to her or anyone else for that matter. Sarah simply wasn't the most chatty of people for the most part, or at least not until she began to trust another. She had only accepted to allow the other girl to sit at her table out of kindness and nothing more.
She shrugged her shoulders after Samantha apologized. “Oh no matter she replied. I think the guy looked a bit off when he'd stepped foot in here though, unlike them I noticed how he grimaced a few times as he moved about. I guess something like he felt sick but was trying to ignore it?” She shrugged again.
It was true the guy was feeling ill when he walked in. She had in fact poisoned him a few blocks back as he drank a glass of water given to him by a merchant she'd air-blown a pill into his drink. Who ever used the glass next if it wasn't washed would end up with a good case of stomach problem for a while but nothing more. She'd used a rather mild poison but with this man's physical condition she knew it would do the job. She'd just decided to stick with him until it did finally take over.
“Anyway...” She smiled. “They make some really great biscuits here.” Shed changed the subject.

Sam listened as the girl spoke and even more intently when it appeared that this stranger was here when John arrived as it meant that she was a witness that the soldiers would have interviewed and she did like to know if the soldiers did their jobs right as they don't always do. She would later check up on the reports they made.
There was also a small nudging in the back of her mind that she brushed off. Sure, this stranger was here before John and therefore spent well over an hour here in the coffee house and is just calmly sipping and eating but it could be her day off work just like Samantha. Trying to relax is not a crime even if it's lengthy.
"Indeed" She smiled as her eyes widened in agreement and anticipation to taking a bite of her own food. "Everything they have here is good so I like to come here whenever I have a day off work and just relax. It beats always being at the Phantom even though it's always good there too. Makes things different and not so monotonous, this morning especially it seems."
After having replied to the strangers comment about the food, Sam finally took a bite of her own. She did not want to talk with her mouth full so had waited for the opportune time.

Sarah sipped her tea while the other talked. The tea was still quite warm but would begin cooling quickly so she figured she’d best get it down before that happened' she hated lukewarm tea. As Samantha talked Sarah took note of the things she said and the way she looked over at her. There was something definitely different about this woman that that of any other person one would run into. There was something about the way her eyes moved. The assassin couldn't quite put a finger on it but she would mentally note it in the files of her memory.
“So...” Sarah kind of laughed slightly. “Do you come here often?”She asked thinking of the old one liner use throughout the world by so many people at bars.

"I try to come by when I can," Sam replied. "I don't often get to eat at home and packed lunches are not so tasty so I prefer to eat out but I come here when I have a bit of time to relax and not when I'm rushed. The Phantom is better for quick meals as they pretty much have everything ready or almost ready so I eat there more often."
Pausing a bit she looked over at the girl who'd not given her name with questioning, "What about you? You said it's not your first time here, come often or prefer other places?"
She knew to respect people enough that if they don't offer a name they probably don't want to or are too shy so to not push for it. This one did not seem shy though so it might have to do with the line of work. Secret police? Thief? Assassin? 'Oh come on now... Don't go putting bad motives on folks you just met'.
Though her thoughts trailed, her face did not show it. The only thing there was her question she asked aloud.

Sarah's profession had nothing to do with the reason she didn’t give her name out. \it was simply a mater of trust. She didn't trust this woman and so she didn't give a name. Truly it was just that simple.
“Oh I come here from time to time. I do not tend to eat out much at all really. Not good for you and all that.” She answered the others question. “I let my feet find a place for my ass to sit.” She then stated. “I don't think on it much.” She confirmed in case the other didn't catch her meaning in the first place.
Sarah finished off what was sitting in front of her and then leaned back in her chair with her hands clasped behind her head now and fully looked upon the woman across from her. She wasn't that big a person but she was obviously in great shape. She was indeed some sort of official though she wouldn't know what sort until she mozied on back to the guild and asked a spy. Of course she could ask her what she did for a living but then that would bring up the question of what Sarah did as well and then she'd have to lie and she hated lying to anyone. Sometimes it just had to be done though and when she wasn't in the mind to trust the person at her table.... she most certainly wouldn't be of the mind to tell her that she was an assassin.
“What product do you use on your hair?” She then asked, wanting to know in all honesty.

"Fair enough." She replied simply. Probably the shortest reply that this stranger has received of yet.
With the next question Sam smiled again, "I get asked that often but honestly it's only shampoo and conditioner. I don't have time to add other products even though my mother insists that I should. If horses don't need anything fancy, why should I? They have gorgeous hair." She finished her last statement while looking out at her bare backed Silver who was patiently waiting for his treat and he nickered at her as he saw her looking his way, making her smile wider.

“Hmm...I suppose you're right but then again the soldiers do indeed use a special product on their horses coats to make them shine even more whenever it is that they have those awards ceremonies and whatnot up there at the hold. As well I know most of the nobles around the area use the same stuff for their carriage horses, you know.. have to out shine the neighbor and all that.” She rolled her eyes.
Sarah stretched her hands above her head and then returned them behind it and continued to look over at Samantha. The woman obviously too great pride in her horse and even loved it, this she was certain of. She was confident yet somehow shy at the same time and to this, Sarah understood as she was very much the same way with people.

"Yeah, I know. Those idiot soldiers put so much product on their horses that they look almost plastic." She replied while rolling her eyes at the thought of those soldiers. She knew the ones that did that and most of them were not decent people. There were the exceptions though, the good soldiers and several of them did it too. "Well, I guess they're not all idiots, but still. I kind of prefer the natural look though. But I do bathe Silver when he needs it. He's generally good at keeping himself clean but sometimes I swear he gets dirty just to get a good scrub down and then his coat is all nice."
The waitress came by to refill glasses of water, and, still anxious from the mornings events, knocked a glass over and without even the slightest hesitation, Sam had caught it in her hand and set it back down, not even thinking about how it would look seeing as to her it was just normal. She saw it was going to hit the floor so it was only natural to prevent it.
"Sorry about that Sam" said the waitress all nervous like.
"It's okay Margaret, no harm done" Sam smiled back and the girl finished filling the water glasses and then left to wipe down tables.

Sarah took note of her reaction to the falling glass. To Sarah it just seemed as though Samantha had great reflexes was all and nothing more than that. Sarah hadn't even considered catching the glass and so never even moved a bit when it all went down.
“Hmmm...” Was her thought once more as to the recollection of some of those soldiers. “Keeps himself clean does he?” She laughed. “I don’t' think I've ever seen a horse try to be clean. They enjoy rolling in the dirt, sand or mud and every time you bathe one it doesn't matter how hard you try to keep it clean, it finds a way to roll in the dirt.” She shook her head and laughed. “That's rich.” She stated and then sighed allowing her gaze to move outside once more.

"Silver is strange that way for sure. He does like sand and mud yes. But he mostly likes to swim and wade around in water. He generally does both though; rolls around in the mud and then takes a swim in a pond. I'm glad he has the options. And mud is good for his complexion too so it's all good."
Taking a short pause she continued, "So you know about horses too then?"

“Well when I was younger I spent a lot of time at the stables.” She replied honestly. “I like horses well enough but I simply don't find the time any longer to keep one of my own. They simply demand too much attention that I can't give.” She finished and then looked at Samantha for a moment before returning her gaze back outside again.
