Something was bothering the already greatly disturbed vampire elder tonight. There was something just not quite right about the sizzling and cracking sound he heard coming from outside the Opera house as he approached the exit.
There was a strange smell as well that came to him on the back of the wind as he opened up the door and stepped outside. It wasn't the fire lilies; he knew where that came from. No, there was something different that his sensitive senses caught; out there someplace in the great plains.
The storm that had preceded the Lady Chaos had left a sulfuric smell around the area but it wasn't that at all. He walked out onto the plains and looked around. To his right and far off toward the forest, something caught his attention. It wasn't something the human eye could have caught from this distance but his vampire sight showed it to him almost immediately.
Moloch took off in that direction and in a matter of no more than a couple minutes he'd reached the far side of the plains and his feet came to a skittering halt in front of what looked to be a dark black hole of energy, pulsating in front of him.
The vampire cocked his head to one side and sniffed deeply. He immediately wrinkled his nose and then sneezed.
“Gods.. what the hell...” He growled.
He walked around the “hole” It didn't seem to have any width to it but instead it just seemed to be hanging in the air as it it was simply a dark space of air.
He picked up a stick and through it at the thing. There was a quick flash of darkness as if the thing expanded slightly and then the stick was gone. It didn't go through to the other side or drop to the ground underneath the thing.. it simply wasn't here anymore.
“Oh my...” He stated as he raised an eyebrow. “What the hell are you?” He asked the thing.
It, of course, didn't answer him.
The dark air, as he was calling it, was only about the size of a medium sized dog and it seemed to be doing no harm but it still puzzled the vampire to no end. He would spend the entire night trying to figure out what it was before he was chased back home by the rising sun.
Now at home he paced his study. He walked back and forth and back again and again. He muttered to himself and consulted volume after volume of text looking for something that could explain what he had found the previous night. His studies took up the entire morning and the day moved on and on until it was dark again.
Moloch paced around the dark air that had grown quite considerable during the daylight hours he was away.
“The thing is big enough for a draft mule to go through now.” He muttered to himself as he now sat on the ground and simply watched the thing.
After a few hours had passed Moloch was jolted upright when he heard a noise come from that thing. Someone was talking through there, or rather inside there. There was definitely someone inside the thing.
“Hello? Someone there?” He questioned.
He got no verbal answer but instead.. a stick came flying out of the hole; it was not the same stick he through in, as a matter of fact it was like no stick he'd ever seen in his life. Certainly it was wood but he couldn't identify the tree or plant it came from. He held it in his hand, smelled it and turned it over and over again and again.
“What the...” He furrowed his brow and then, without a second thought on the matter he walked into the dark air and disappeared from the plain.
