Makura walked into this new city, her cloak billowing in the breeze. She looked at her surroundings with disgust. "Well, I suppose it's better than some of the other places I've seen, still..." She looked over at an old man making his way slowly down the street, "There are so many weak and pathetic people here, it makes me sick."

eleisia couldn't put this story down. The experiences of Atlar and Siddiq were mesmerizing, she couldn't wait to find out which one of them would win the hand of the young heiress in the end. She walked slowly through the streets on her way to the market, the novel envelopping her till the smells of Karador became the frankincense-scented breezes of Jungdah District.
A disgusted attitude seemed to bubble up before her, and she meant to move aside, really she did... when she walked smack into a cute young girl.
"Pardon me!!"

Makura hadn't seen it coming, but before she knew it, somebody had run into her, knocking her on the ground. Makura stood up and glared at the women. "Well, excuse you! I don't know who you think you are running into me like that, but you had better watch where you are going if you know whats good for you!"

The girl stared up at eleisia with angry eyes and a fierce demeanor. Her aura was full of fire and rage, and her voice threw little bubbles of angst into kel's face.
"Who I think I am? I am called eleisia khartou. But surely you are aware that this was not done on purpose? Is there something I might do?"

This was usually the part where the other person starts yelling back, but this woman simply apologized, even insisted on making it up to her. Makura felt kinda awkward for a moment, even slightly ashamed at having yelled at her. "I don't care who you are! Just..." She wasn't sure what she had planned to say next. The lady hadn't actually done anything, nor was she upset with Makura for yelling at her. Makura grew frustrated at the idea of having been made to look like an idiot.

A four-foot wall of frustration, shame, and wonder moved across to meet eleisia waist-high, and seemed to want to slap her. The ordinarily well-behaved and mannerly librarian was enjoying the little one's discomfort too much to ease up just yet.
"Did you not ask me who I thought I was? Or perhaps you were hoping I would not have an answer? No matter-- you seem smaller than most lone travellers in Karador. Perhaps I may escort you to the residence of your guardians?"
A quiet smirk stayed just at the corner of her lip, calmly disguised as a sympathetic smile.

Makura was really not liking this woman. "If anyone was stupid enough to attack me, I am more than capable of defending myself. I don't need your help."

"I can see that. You do seem quite ready to defend yourself-- against what threat I cannot imagine."
eleisia sidestepped, and made to walk away, tossing a parting comment over her left shoulder.
"But you seem to have it all under control. So I'll be on my way."
She raised the book in front of her face and took foreshortened steps ahead, though she did not read. Instead, her attention remained behind her, gambling that the small female would call her back.

Makura stared at her in disbelief. That was it? She was just going to walk off and act like nothing had happened? "Wait a minute! Where do you think you're going? I never said I was done with you!"

eleisia smiled briefly behind her book, still facing away. She did not pause, though keeping her footstep short was becoming more difficult...
"I don't recall asking for your permission, little one."

This woman was so ANNOYING! Makura stomped in front of the women, cutting her off. "I don't know who you think you are, talking to me like that, but you'd better watch it, or I'll make you seriously regret it!"

"Will you, then?"
eleisia stopped, sidestepped exactly one body-width, and continued to move forward. She lifted her gaze from the book, looked down at the angry girl, cocked her head to one side...
"Curious."
...and she fastened her gaze once more on the road ahead, keeping up the illusion of reading.

"Is that a challenge?" Makura grinned. "Fine."
She raised her arms, did a sort of hand motion, and a small quick beam of black-colored energy shot toward Eleisia.

The hairs on eleisia's forearms trembled in their follicles, and the physical response was all the warning she had. It was almost all the warning she needed.
eleisia's guard had been up to some extent through the entire exchange. Rage is one of the most tiring emotions. A great deal of effort is required to sustain the driving anger and thrust it toward someone else. Not surprisingly, it is a similar cost to rebuff. eleisia's ability to prevent that rage from touching her was a gift she thanked the sands for... but it did not come free.
As soon as the odd tingling sensation on her forearms and the back of her neck registered, she expended energy for the specific purpose of shielding herself from any forcible attack. Unfortunately, with her back turned, there was no way for her to know how it had been aimed without some prior link to the sender.
The impromptu shield absorbed most of the impact. eleisia stopped moving, her attention focused on the mental shadow of the small girl. The energetic signature of her assailant's magic was that of black ooze, a splat-stamp followed by the sticky residue of angry sludge. Shuddering, eleisia took a deep breath, cleansing herself with difficulty of the aura-dampening effect.
She turned to face the girl. "How unnecessary."
With her left hand, she extended three fingers and met the thumb and forefinger, creating a ring. Holding this om symbol before her belly, she exhaled, visualizing her breath in vine-like ropes surrounding the girl and forming a fishnet of energy keeping the girl rooted to her place.
"Good day to you, little one."

The woman had blocked her attack, and then did some weird hand gesture, sealing Makura where she was. "You... you bitch! I don't need to be able to move to beat you!" she yelled. "Ilska spränga!" A huge unfocused wave of energy emitted from her body, traveling in all directions, tearing up the ground as it went.
