Sorcerer Mage and Demonic Magic use
I have been asked to write you something to explain the difference between the three so here it is:
Mage
Powers are very limited in the beginning and can do nothing until they have studied under the tutelage of another. It is a learned skill, though one does have to be born from a magical background. It doesn't mean their parents have to be Mages but somewhere in their lineage there was another Mage or even Sorcerer. In order to obtain great power a Mage must have studied an element and understand that element from the ground up. Take Fire for example: though at a young age they may accidentally set something on fire it would be unpredictable and without real direction. They would need to know what fire is made of, how it forms, what feeds it down to the molecular structure and then they would have to learn to control it. This is why only the oldest Mages become masters. It takes years and years of study and practice to learn even the smallest thing. Any race can be a Mage though it is most uncommon to be find a race other than human who uses magic at all, this is largely due to the access of books and study material, labs ect...
A Mage needs their element to be around them in order to draw from it. If there is no fire about they can not make a fire (Though a Master Mage can make it happen if there is oil or the like around because they know what it would take to make a fire from that source but the process would be slow and no good in a fight, but it could be done.) ect.
The bigger the magical use the quicker the drain on Mages so be careful the amount of energy used to create that huge storm you wanted because you may not be able to do anything after you've done it. Besides, why would you want to go messing around with weather patterns don't you know you could destroy an entire planet hat way! ~glares~
Sorcerer
A sorcerer can be born of any race.
Their powers are unlimited from the beginning(Meaning they can do anything they can imagine) though they don't usually know it and though they can start making stuff happen as early as they are able to form a self opinion, it is usually at puberty that their powers begin to show for most. The only limitation to a sorcerer is their mind, their imagination.
The reason that they are few and far between is that most adolescent sorcerers have had no guide and so will.. 'will' something not to exist when they get angry or scared and thus end their own existence in the process.
They use their own will to make things happen and draw energy not only from within but from the world around them. Though a Sorcerer does not need to learn how something is made or why it is the way that it is, study will give them an extra edge and only make them more powerful. Yes they can shape shift into whatever form they wish but they better be damned sure they don't forget to change their innards to match the animal otherwise they will die; this is another cause for death among young Sorcerers. Likewise with birds they MUST have all the feathers, wing span and shape just right or they can not fly ect..
The only other limitation to a Sorcerer is that it does take energy from them every time they use their will. Small things such as light or simply water breathing and transforming can go on for hours if not days for the more practiced but to make huge things happen, it is usually a one time shot and they had better make sure they have a back up in case it doesn't work because they will be useless afterwards and sometimes for days, depending on how big the use was. Once again WHY do you insist on changing the weather... stop it. They also tend to have a photographic memory so they retain everything they learn rather quickly.
Demons
Demons can do everything and anything and will not drain themselves. Demons have usually spent hundreds if not thousands of years in the Chaos realm and have learned different tricks for their trades. They can not be killed and only sent back to their home realm IF one is lucky enough to dispel them. Demons tend to specialize on one element or the other but that is only because they tend to like one more so than the next. Save for Shadow Demons, they have a kinship with the dark places and though they might use fire as a weapon it is very rare, Shadow Demons are usually the last to be allowed into the earthly realms of the worlds for they are not but sadistic hunters who will not take souls for their lord but selfishly devour them for themselves; Shadow Demons do not tend to disguise what they are.
