Makura perched atop a building, gazing hungrily at the people below. Why would anyone think it safe to travel at night? No matter. If they wished to volunteer their blood, all the better. One man in particular stood out. He stood directly in front of the building from which Makura was observing. He was a rather tall man, quite muscular. Had he wore armor, he could have easily passed as a royal guard. Perhaps he was on his way to join the royal militia?
It had been some time since Makura hunted, as it seemed extremely savage and just plain uncivilized to her. But if one were to look in her eyes now, not even the slightest spark of civilization could be found. Only one thought ran through her mind, Blood. I want blood. I need blood.
Suddenly, as if to answer her thought, the man looked up toward Makura. Not missing the opportunity, Makura leaped down upon him. And before the man had a chance to see what had just grabbed him, Makura tore out his exposed throat, splattering blood everywhere. His lifeless body collapsed to the ground, Makura soon upon it, drinking deeply of the crimson life flowing from his neck.
The people who had witnessed it ran immediately. The others had turned to see what the commotion was, and they soon ran as well, as Makura glared up at them, her normally cute, innocent face painted with the blood of the would-be soldier.

Suddenly a leather booted foot connected with her back, landing solidly between her shoulders and sending her reeling forwards off the broken body that lay sprawled in the gutter. Although the blow was not designed to injure, it had its desired effect, removing the child from that disgusting ruined corpse. In the darkness a short figure stood next to the body of the dead man, entirely cloaked and hooded. He was barely visible, save for the two points of red light that glowed beneath his hood - eyes that burned in the shadows. Erokai looked down at the corpse with distaste, the corners of his mouth curling back into a grimace, and at the same time revealing a set of razor sharp teeth and two elongated canines. Slowly, he shook his head. The body was ruined, the heart stopped, the blood growing cold as it gushed out of the horrendous neck wound to flow down the gutter and into the sewers for the rats and filth, wasted and spoiled. He looked back up to the child - the young girl whom he had removed from the body even whilst she was feeding, "Have you no class, no self respect, or just no brains?" He demanded in his thick eastern accent, "That's disgusting." He said in a deep, musical voice, indicating the ruined body at his feet. "Not to mention moronic. Do you want to announce the presence of vampires in the city to all of the watch and the army? Do you want us all hunted down and exterminated? Foolish child, how old are you? Nine? Ten?" He went on, slowly moving around the corpse and towards the child with delicate, graceful steps. "Eneda immaria uszatuk kama ranszus?" He demanded in a tongue that would have sounded alien to all those within the city, "Do you even know where he's been? What he eats? If he has any diseases? That's appalling. No half blood should ever be so blinded by bloodlust that they forget their self respect. Get up, girl, and come and get yourself a decent meal, in a civilised manner." The cloaked figure went on, circling the child with feather light steps that made no sound whatsoever on the paved floor beneath his leather clad feet. The stranger was unusually graceful. His movements were fluid and light, almost seeming to make no contact with the ground. Just the way he walked belied an incredible dexterity and agility that lay beneath the cold, calm and collected surface of this man. In fact, he was no man. Erokai was a half blood, a Dunpeal, and an assassin – a good one at that. In fact, Erokai liked to think there was no better, and that may even have been true.

Makura had been knocked from the corpse, interupting her meal. Her first instinct was to attack, but she had begun to return to her proper state of mind, and thus common sense told her to at least identify the assailant first. Based on his teeth, Makura guessed that he was also a vampire of some sort. That would explain why he hadn't run like the humans did. But then, he had the nerve to start scolding her, like a child! Nine? Ten? Did he actually think that she was some immature little brat?! But, most everything he said was true. She had known how uncivilized she appeared while she was doing it, but it didn't seem to matter as much at the time. Now, even she was ashamed by the way she had acted. The way the man spoke to her, the way he walked, he seemed to carry about him an undeniable strength. It wasn't the brute strength that every soldier possessed, instead, it had an elegance to it. It didn't occur once to Makura to claim any superiority over him, as though he could effortlessly prove her wrong. In fact, she almost admired him. And she felt even more ashamed about her previous actions. Makura stood up slowly, her face slightly red with embarassment. She wiped the blood from around her mouth and followed him without any argument.
