The sun was up, the air fresh and clear on this warm spring day. People went bustling about the town square in good moods and Melanie couldn't be happier to be in town today.
There was a shop in town that had just opened up and she had a few coins in her purse from sellig the veggies at the market for her father the other day; he always gave her a cut. She walked up the the stall and found what she was looking for and with a smile, told the man behind the counter exactly what she wanted.
“2 scoops chocolate with some of that chocolate syrup stuff drizzled on it please.” She told him laying her coin on the counter before her.
The man smiled as he quickly wiped the coins form the counter and then commenced to make her the treat she longed for. When he had finished, she took it from his outstretched hand and after a hardy lick, she turned with a great smile and walked to a less busy part of the square, took a seat on the park bench and sat down and began consuming the ice cream cone while watching the birds twit on about the small grassy parkway before her.
Melanie didn't have many moments like this, her family being quite poor, so she really enjoyed them when she did. She only wished she knew more people in town, she'd been here all her life, but in truth, she was not to outgoing when it came to other people. That and the fact that she was usually too tired to do anything after a hard day on the farm.

Abriex took in her warm surroundings. It was nice this time of year she noticed, it was something she was used to since she grew up with similar weather. It reminded her of the days she would hunt and play with her friends and family in Dimmirk. She felt the hairs stand up on her neck as she felt deja vu creep in on her. For a small moment she wished she never left and that she was sitting in the dining hall with her brothers and sisters, ale in hand and a large roasted goat leg in the other. She would always miss that.
Meerin seemed to be different, so she heard, a dwelling of all races and types of people and 'things'. She would most likely be welcomed here. She hoped anyhow. Instead of feeling alone here, she walked with confidence. Her pace slowed though after passing a simple looking girl who sat at a bench.
Stopping, she turned slightly and laughed, an audible laugh. She took a couple steps back until she faced the girl who had a fair share of chocolate smeared upon her upper lip.
"Look at you, child!" Abriex laughed again and took a handkercheif from her pocket. It was crumpled but it would do the trick. Her outstretched hand held the cloth to her in offering. "You've got a bit of sweets on your face." She winked. "Im Abriex."

Melanie looked up when she heard a laugh coming form in front of her, wondering what might have been amusing around her. She peered up just in time to see a woman with red hair holding a handkerchief out to her and telling her she had stuff on her face.
“Th, Thanks...” Melanie replied, taking the offered handkerchief from the other woman and wiping her face and blushing slightly but that didn't last long, and she laughed a little bit at herself.
“I guess it just tasted so good that I wasn't being careful.” She started and then realized the other had given her a name and so, not to be rude, “My name is Melanie, but you can call me Mel.” She stated, holding the handkerchief out to the other.

The girl seemed a bit nervous she noticed. She didnt seem to be a very dominate female. That was a very unattractive trait of Abriex's. She always tended to rate herself among others. She shrugged off the thought and took the handkerchief back, folding it and stuffing it back into its home in her jean pocket. Abriex nodded at her thanks and smiled a half smile.
"Well, Mel, if you ask me," She shrugged, "chocolate isnt something to be careful over." then she muttered under her breath, "Especially in this town." She wasnt all together sure if the people here were accepting of its vast expanse of creatures who dwelled here. She wasnt even entirely sure if this girl was more than human and if she wasnt then how did she feel about monsters. She pushed aside the worry and looked again at Mel. It would probably be a good idea to get to know at least one person today. She had no idea where anything was or who anyone was.
"I need an Inn, would you point one out to me? Ill buy us lunch."
And with that she place her sold hands on her hips and stood tall, waiting.
